The clan...

Boys, boys, boys!
Guns, guns and more guns.
And just a wee bit of drama.
It was fun though!

The birthday boy....

is 6 years old!!! Can you believe it? I can't!!! Time is just flying by! Good thing we took a few pictures to document the occassion and I can look back on them when my mind starts failing me... oh wait, that's already happening. Well, it's a good thing about those pictures! My parents and sister came over for dinner and cake last night to celebrate with us. Keith got a bunch of cool things.... space blasters from mom, the nerf long shot from Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Alissa, clone-speeder guys from dad, money from old mama and old papa and Erszi angyi and Bela batyi, a clone trooper helmet and star wars back pack and money from mama, papa & auntie and a spider man construction set and star wars book from Jacob and Andrew -- is that enough? Not according to Keith, because I told him that he would be able to pick something out for himself at Toys R Us today!!! Even Randy got in on the action - he got some money and a wallet from mama and papa and he got some money from old mama and old papa --- and Keith is sharing his toys with Randy! How nice! Here are some pics......

The run down....

It's been a week since I've put anything new on here... let's see what I can remember.
I spent three hours in 1st grade on monday. Keith seems to be doing well in class and it was actually fun to be in there. Keith had homework this week - that was not so much fun, but he got it done. I think it was Monday that my dad stopped by after work (it may have been Tuesday - I don't remember), but which ever day it was, we went to my parents house afterwards and the boys went swimming. My mom packed up a couple of bags for us to take home -- it's like going to the grocery store!
I spent 3 hours in Randy's class on Tuesday and that was pretty good too. He didn't get any homework yet, but he will tomorrow.
Wednesday I met some friends at Ground Control for coffee - I love Wednesdays! The boys get out at 12:05 every Wednesday. I took them to their friends house and they had a blast! Three sets of brothers - all the same ages. Kirby and Jason are in Keith's class and Kirby's brother, Carter & Jason's brother Eric were in Randy's class last year. The boys get along great and mine couldn't stop telling me how much fun they had. Kristen still had all her hair when I went to pick them up and that night she was expecting the whole cub scout troop at her house! 17 kids! Talking to Kristen for a while, I learned that her husband speaks fluent Hungarian!! He's not Hungarian - he spent a couple of years in Hungary on his mission. He happened to call home while I was there and Kristen told him that I speak Hungarian and he couldn't wait for us to get together - so we could talk. Let me tell you when I got home, I had to start practicing Hungarian!!!!
Thursday I went to work - it was steady- that was good. The boys each did a book report when they got home and then of course they got right on their computers. I got back to cleaning - can't have people think we live in a pig sty!
On Friday work was dead! I did one haircut in 2 hours. I got my hair colored and left work early so I could come home and finish cleaning and prepping for people coming over. The boys had their friends Jason and Eric come over - that meant their mom would come over and this being the first time, I didn't want her to think I was lousy housekeeper. And when they came to pick the boys up - mom, dad and their 2 sisters were all here - yeah, I was glad I cleaned the house! Then for dinner, Amy, Jim and the boys came over - all the more reason to have a clean house. My boys were so excited - they had no idea anyone was coming over after their friends left. They couldn't believe that they were going to play with two sets of friends in the same day. I know, I know - they don't get out much!
I made a super simple yummy dessert - I must share the recipe with everyone - you will want to make this!!!

Cream Cheese Squares

Prep Time:15 min
Total Time:40 min
Makes:24 servings
2 cans (8 oz. each) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls, divided
2 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar, divided
2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Unroll 1 of the cans of crescent dough. Press onto bottom of greased 13x9-inch baking pan to form crust, firmly pressing seams together to seal.
BEAT cream cheese, vanilla, egg and 1/2 cup of the sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Spread onto crust.
UNROLL remaining can of crescent dough onto large sheet of wax paper. Pat out dough to form 13x9-inch rectangle, pressing seams together to seal. Invert over cream cheese mixture to form top crust; discard wax paper.
BAKE 30 to 35 min. or until golden brown. Combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon in small bowl; sprinkle over squares before cutting.
Try it!! You'll like it!
Yesterday work was really busy - and you'll never hear me complain about that - I always want to be busy while I'm there. The boys had to go buy a birthday present for Kirby and then they spent plenty of time on their computers. When I got home from work we all headed over to the Kirby house for dinner and a movie in the pool!!! That was pretty cool. And I didn't have to speak too much Hungarian - that was cool too.
Today Jeff and the boys are off to see The Clone Wars movie with Frank and his boys. I'm going to the scary mall to get myself some new shoes and of course I'm going to go to Steve and Barry's to check out SJP's Bitten line of clothes. Better go shower first!

One week down

The first week of school is over - not sure how many more to go, but the first one went well. It was especially nice since there was no homework. Randy and Keith both like their teachers and their classes. Monday I'll be helping out in Keith's class and Tuesday I'll be in Randy's class. Keith will have homework on Monday and according to Randy's teacher, they haven't received their books, reading packets or spelling program yet -- so Randy may not have homework yet. We'll see. I started my "school year" schedule at work. I'm back to Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. That means I'm off today!!! Yay!!! We're all home together. And my big plan is to do laundry. I'm considering going outside to cut down some shrubs - that depends on how hot it is out there - I don't want to melt or shrivel up like a raisin - whichever the sun might do to me.
Yesterday Dad - also known as Jeff or Homer, was in command of 4 boys for most of the day. Keith is friends with a boy named Kirby. Kirby happens to be the brother of Carter. Carter happens to be a friend of Randy's. Randy and Carter were in the same class last year (not this year, though) and this year Keith and Kirby are in the same class. On Thursday Keith asked me what our phone number is - I know, I should teach him that one of these days - anyway, he asked me to write it down twice so he could give it to two friends, so they could come over. He delivered our phone number/message to his friends on Friday. He got a very interesting response from Kirby... while chanting something like "you are my master", he kept bowing down in front of Keith over and over and over again. I watched as I was walking back to the car. I couldn't help cracking up -- kids are so funny. Well anyway, Carter and Kirby spent most of Saturday at the Hawke house - and to think I missed it all because I was at work!
Have you heard Kid Rock's new song, All Summer Long? I don't care if you think he ripped off Werewolves of London or Sweet Home Alabama - I think that song is great!!!!!!! I can't stop singing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwIGZLjugKA That's the video!

The first day has come and gone

Both boys had good days. I am very glad!! Keith is even excited about going back tomorrow. Randy hasn't admitted to any excitement about tomorrow, but he hasn't said anything negative about it!! They have both decided that they don't want to ride the bus home this year - mainly because it's the same mean, jerky bus driver from last year and the fact that there is no A/C on the bus.
I'm only slightly dreading being the room parent coordinator. I talked to each teacher on Thursday night - 36 teachers - I think I got them all. Some were pretty excited about the notion of room parents and others didn't really care. Oh well.

Since the teachers were nice enough not to give homework today, we went to my parents' house and the boys did some swimming.

We made spaghetti and meatballs and Texas toast for dinner. I was going to make salad, but that didn't happen. At least we got our veggies in the tomato sauce.

It'll be nice to get back into a routine and back to having Sundays off!!!

That's the story for now.

It's the first day of school!

It's been a weird day. It's too quiet. I don't have the radio or the tv on. The animals are calm. All I hear is me typing away on the keyboard!
Well, Randy is officially a 3rd grader and Keith is a 1st grader! I'm hoping they both have great first days!! I can hardly wait to pick them up and hear what they have to say!!
I will be sure to write more tonight, to let you all know!

The kitchen...

I left this picture out because it had no people (or bugs) in it, but here it is....
Happy now Homer? :-)

The adventure began...

On Friday Jeff got home from work around 10am because he went in to work at midnight to do his normal first of the month stuff. When he got home, we finished gathering up the last of the camping gear and then we headed out. We went to Payson, Houston Mesa Campground. We started to set up all of our gear and got most of it up before the Bronder's arrived. Once they got there, they started to set up their tent and all, but didn't get it done before it started to rain on us. It actually felt pretty good and it cooled us all down a bit. We didn't build a campfire the first night, but we did the second night. The kids kept asking about roasting marshmallows and making smores over and over and over and over and over again. When we finally did, Randy didn't like his marshmallows roasted and I was too lazy to make smores for the boys. Keith was happy with his roasted marshmallows. Saturday morning, I got to take a cold shower, because the water in the bladder didn't have enough time to warm up. Later in the afternoon when Randy wanted to take a shower, the water was so hot that he couldn't use it for showering -- crazy water.
I think we all had a pretty good time, even though Michele was sick Saturday morning.
We had some yummy camping vittles. Polish sausage, potatoes, carrots, salad, steak, more potatoes, peppers, carrots, celery, hot dogs, yummy cake, banana muffins, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, chippos. Can you tell that food is my favorite part? Michele made popcorn on her camp stove! And she made a pie in her camp cooker, over the campfire.
I didn't take enough pictures, but I did take a few...
there were lots of bugs --tons of different types of beetles. Jeff made friends with one. He even pet it and the thing just stayed there enjoying it. I enjoyed sitting around doing nothing but reading my book, listening to the radio and adding my two cents to the conversations going on around me. I'm ready to go again! Hey, why not? The stuff is already packed up!
